Golden Moonrise
Where the forces of deformation during the orogenesis of the European Alps were not too destructive, the limestone and dolomite are preserved well. 200 million year old sediments with fossil sea shells and corals from the Triassic Tethys Ocean build up this mountain range that once formed a large reef. Seldom, additives of cobalt colorize the dolomite into a deep pink.
